A woman who recently moved to Dundee was “gobsmacked” when she was sent SSE account details for four strangers in the post.
Janet Bethany, 58, got an envelope in the mail from the utility company containing four letters for other accounts.
Each letter was duplicated so the bulky envelope contained eight sheets of paper. Full account details for four addresses on Honeygreen Road were included.
Ms Bethany, who moved to Dundee from York last month, is staying on Earn Crescent temporarily. She tried contacting the company to tell them about the mishap, but her calls went unanswered.
She fears the letters, dated May 28, which arrived at her address on Thursday, could have led to identity theft if they had been received by someone with criminal intentions.
She said: “I was gobsmacked when I opened the envelope.”
A spokesman for SSE said: “Unfortunately Ms Bethany received a letter to her home which wasn’t addressed to her.
“SSE has put measures in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again but we would urge anybody who receives a letter not addressed to them to not open it and simply return it to the sender.”
