A man has been arrested in connection with three alleged robberies.
A major manhunt was launched after staff at Ladbrokes on the city’s Perth Road, William Hill on Buttars Loan in Charleston and the Scotmid shop on Invergowrie’s Main Street were allegedly held up at knifepoint on Sunday.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said today that a 37-year-old man had been arrested in connection with all three of the alleged incidents.
One eyewitness saw police outside the bookmakers on Perth Road – which is only yards away from Ryehill police station – on Sunday.
He said: “There was one vehicle outside at around 5.20pm last night.
“There were two officers inside the car and it looked like there were forensics officers coming out of the store with some sort of evidence bag.
“There was blue tape across the building and I saw a member of staff inside. There didn’t look to be any sign of forced entry or smashed windows.
“I hope everyone involved is OK.”
Another witness spoke of seeing a heavy police presence at Invergowrie Main Street at around 2.30pm.
She said: “There were police vehicles, including one with dogs.
“Officers were speaking to people and taking statements.
“We also saw police vehicles racing along the Kingsway.
“We were on our way to a children’s birthday party.
“It was pretty surreal seeing something like that in the middle of the day.”
A Scotmid Co-operative spokesman said the store was closed following an alleged attempted robbery.
He added: “The safety of our staff and our customers is always our main priority. Thankfully the staff present during this incident were unharmed, although they were understandably shaken and distressed by the experience.
“Scotmid will ensure those impacted receive the support and counselling they need.
“The police investigation into this incident is ongoing and we are co-operating fully with them as they pursue their inquiries.”
Ladbrokes and William Hill were also approached for comment but had not responded as the Tele went to press.
