Shocking images of a people carrier driving on the wrong side of Riverside Drive have emerged online.
The dramatic footage is understood to have been recorded earlier this week.
A dark-coloured vehicle can be seen ploughing into bales of grass on a footpath on the westbound section of the carriageway.
The 26-second clip has been described as being like “something out of a Hollywood movie” and the driver’s behaviour has been branded “utterly reckless” by local councillor Fraser Macpherson.
It is understood the people carrier had veered towards oncoming traffic heading west towards Perth.
The footage shows the vehicle on the grassy verge before crashing into a bale of grass near the Dundee University playing fields.
Despite swerving dangerously to avoid a second bale, it continues to drive along the grass as other vehicles are heading westbound.
A number of scrambler bikes are also caught on the footage heading east while one rider appears to be riding alongside the out-of-control vehicle.
One motorist who saw the footage online said there were visible tracks on the grass.
He added: “It was like something out of a Hollywood movie.
“It looks a bit like the A-Team van. The driver is extremely lucky – there could have been anything in those bales of grass.
“There were visible tyre tracks near the university playing fields on Tuesday night showing where the car mounted the pavement.”
Mr Macpherson urged anyone who witnessed the stunt to contact the police.
He said: “This is utterly reck less driving. Hopefully the footage will be able to identify the driver and the vehicle concerned.
“There could have been pedestrians walking along and I dread to think what could have happened.
“This driver should not be on the road.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland said officers had no knowledge of the incident.
