X Factor star Dermot O’Leary was at Dundee V&A Dundee for a special event.
The TV presenter, 45, was at the city’s design museum, which opened in September last year, to announce the shortlist for the 2019 National Television Awards.
Video of the event, screened by Tele reporter Sarah Williamson, can be seen at the top of this article.
With more than 10 million votes recorded last year alone, the event marked the opening of the final public vote to choose the 2019 NTAs winners.
As well as launching the shortlist to the UK public, the National Television Awards also collaborated with the Beano, the world’s longest-running comic published by DC Thomson in Dundee, to create a special edition comic strip featuring O’Leary and some of this year’s nominees in the style of the Bash Street Kids as the ‘Class of 2019’.
The bespoke artwork was exclusively revealed during the shortlist announcement and is available to view in its entirety on Beano.com.
The winners of the 14 publicly voted categories will be announced at the main show, which takes place in London’s O2 Arena. It will be shown live on ITV from 7.30pm on Tuesday January 22.
The shortlisting event was the first of its kind at the V&A Dundee and will put the Waterfront attraction, which opened in September last year, in the frame for future events of national importance.
It is the latest boost to the standing of the city, which in the past 12 months has been named as a must-visit destination by Lonely Planet, Wall Street Journal and The Guardian. Dundee was also named on National Geographic UK’s Cool List 2019.
The event was brought to Dundee in a partnership involving NTA, VisitScotland and their EventScotland team.
