A businessman has slammed a “scumbag” thief who caused more than £1,000 of damage at his premises.
Scottish Blue Auto Care on Douglas Road, which provides MOT and tyre services, was targeted by a man wearing a motorbike helmet.
The culprit – who was on the premises for about five minutes – was caught in the act on CCTV.
George Scullion, managing director, said tools worth about £400 were stolen.
George said: “People that target people’s business are just scumbags.
“We’re already in the process of increasing security.
“The guy had initially attempted to steal the money from the jet-washers, but he couldn’t get into them.
“In total, he’s caused about £1,000 worth of damage.
“He’s used a lever to force open the door that’s damaged the door and the wall.
“There was about £100 float in the till that was taken.
“It would appear this guy has cased the joint out.”
The CCTV footage shows a man in a motorcycle helmet in the reception area of the premises.
The footage has already been viewed thousands of times online.
George, who said that the business has been targeted in the past, urged anyone who knows anything about the break-in to pass information on to the police.
He added: “We’ve had a terrific response since the video was uploaded online.
“The guy arrived on a 125 super bike and we’ve been able to identify the owner via the registration.
“We’ve been told the bike was perhaps stolen from them.
“Thankfully, what has happened hasn’t hampered the day-to-day running of the business.”
He added: “Every so many years these type of things can happen. We’ve been here for over four years now and we’ve been targeted before.
“There is always a concern that the intruder may strike again.
“In some of the other footage this person is clocking other items at the garage.
“Based on the information we’ve been provided with by members of the public there has been a lot of positive information passed on to us.”
Police contacted George following the break-in, which took place shortly before midnight on Friday, to make him aware of what had happened at the garage.
