A Dundee futsal goalie wowed onlookers as he smashed – what could be – the record for longest goal with a 40-yard wonder strike from his own box.
Dundee West’s Robert Black, 17, got himself on the scoresheet for the first time ever as he helped his side to an 8-1 victory over Dryburgh with an extraordinary effort.
With the match still in the balance, Monifieth’s Black spotted his opposing number off his line and lobbed him from his own goal area – a first in the Scottish Futsal League – Dundee.
Black, who also plays football for Ferry Athletic U/19s, told the Tele: “I looked up and saw that my team were all in our own half and I saw the keeper was off his line by a decent amount and I just thought why not?
“Strikers shoot and miss chances so what makes it different from a goalkeeper?
“I have tried a few times at social futsal and it has maybe worked once, but never in a competitive match – it was great to see it hit the net for my first goal!”
Futsal is an indoor sport with similarities to five-a-side football but with a different ball and rules and is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK.
