The male victim was attacked in neighbouring Viewfield Place before police swarmed the area.

Large crowds of onlookers gathered while the area was sealed off and the male was rushed to hospital.

The man’s current condition was unclear – however it is thought he suffered injuries to his face during the incident.

The inspector added that the matter was a “contained incident” and there was no immediate threat to the wider public.
