The Tele’s sports reporters say Dundee United’s weekend Scottish Cup quarter-final is a “bonus” with the club’s sole focus on tonight’s clash with Inverness.
And they told Tele Sport’s new podcast, Twa Teams, One Street, that Dundee have the ability in their ranks to cause Rangers a problem tomorrow night at Ibrox.
Football writers Tom Duthie, George Cran and Calum Woodger chewed the fat over the two club’s chances this week and you can hear what they had to say here:
The Tangerines face an Inverness Caley Thistle double-header at Tannadice, with tonight’s league game followed by a Scottish Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
Despite the winner of this weekend’s clash booking a trip to Hampden in the semi-finals, Tom is clear which of the two games is most important.
He said: “Nobody at United is thinking about the cup game – they are focusing on the league.
“You get the impression that’s the most important thing. Sunday is a bonus – it would be nice to give the fans a trip to Hampden.
“But United have to get to the Premiership. The big game for them is this Wednesday.
“Whereas, for all Inverness want to get back tot he Premiership their players won’t want to get injured on Wednesday because they want to get to Hampden. They have their eye on the cup more than United.”
Meanwhile, the Dark Blues face the daunting trip to Ibrox this evening on the back of a 4-2 home defeat by Hibs on Friday night.
The hosts, meanwhile, are buoyant after hammering relegation-threatened Hamilton 5-0 at the weekend.
Tom said: “Rangers are playing well but the one hope I have is that every once in a while Rangers have pulled out a nothing performance and tonight could be that one.”
George added: “Dundee have players who can hurt Rangers.”
