A Dundee man has died in an accident in Gran Canaria.
Oil worker Colin Gillespie fell from the quayside in Las Palmas on Saturday.
The 53-year-old sustained a head injury before plunging into the water.
Mr Gillespie is said to have been returning to the ship Stena IceMAX after a period of leave.
He is believed to have been discovered by colleagues who tried their best to resuscitate him.
The Dundonian was a crane operator for Aberdeen firm Stena Drilling.
Today the company issued a statement following their employee’s death.
It read: “Stena Drilling Limited can confirm a tragic accident has occurred involving one of our crew members whilst returning from shore leave to the vessel Stena IceMAX in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain.
“An investigation is under way into this tragic accident and our deepest sympathy goes to family members and next of kin.”
We’ll have more on this in today’s Evening Telegraph Late Extra.
