A renowned psychiatrist has been appointed as NHS Tayside’s new mental health boss.
University of Dundee academic Professor Keith Matthews has been named as the new associate director for mental health and will oversee the upgrade of services across the region.
He said: “I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity to work with the excellent local clinical community to improve services for the people of Tayside.
“There are many significant challenges currently faced by mental health services, both locally in Tayside, but also nationally. However, excellent, safe and sustainable mental health service provision is achievable.”
NHS Tayside chairman John Brown said the board was “extremely proud” to make the appointment.
It is understood the timing of Professor Matthew’s appointment is not related to the BBC documentary on the treatment of patients at Carseview that aired on Monday night.
