Support charity Addaction is to hold a special event today to mark International Overdose Awareness Day – and is inviting locals to get involved.
Charity workers will offer support to families and friends of those who have lost their lives to substance abuse at the Signpost Centre in Whitfield from noon-2pm.
The Reverend Dr Robert Calvert of the Steeple Church will host a memorial service before families and friends are given the opportunity to speak or share memories of lost loved ones.
There will also be an opportunity to hang brass memorial tags in Addaction’s Garden of Hope.
A display of crosses and empty pairs of shoes will also be arranged to highlight the issue of drugs deaths in Dundee.
Dave Barrie, service manager at Addaction Dundee, said he was issuing a “Dundee-wide invitation” for local people to come along to both listen to and share stories.
International Overdose Awareness Day aims to raise awareness of overdose and attempts to reduce the stigma associated with substance abuse.
More than 500 events were held around the world last year to mark the event.
