Coldside residents are being encouraged to have their say on a new women’s custody unit coming to the area when a consultation event takes place later this week.
The Scottish Prison Service is staging an event at the Maxwell Centre in St Salvador’s Church today from 1pm-8pm to provide more information on its proposed community custody unit (CCU) at Our Lady’s Primary School in the Hilltown.
Margaret Wemyss, chairwoman of the Coldside Community Forum, has encouraged those who have views on the CCU proposal to ensure they attend and have their say.
She said: “We need to look at the geography of the area. We have homeless units, network housing – it’s just not a suitable position for this unit.
“I would encourage local people to get down there and have their say.”
