Plans for a new community custody unit in Dundee will be available for public scrutiny at a “drop-in” information event today.
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) has submitted a planning application for the unit on the site of Our Lady’s Primary School on Nelson Street.
The SPS has also organised the “drop-in” event which will be held in the conference room of the Central Library at the Wellgate from 2pm to 6pm.
If approved, it is expected to open in 2020 and will host up to 16 inmates who are serving shorter sentences, or coming to the end of longer ones.
The women’s custody unit would be the second of its kind in Scotland.
A similar unit is currently being built in the Maryhill area of Glasgow.
