Thefts from Dundee city centre stores were a ‘cry for help’, court told

William O’Neill, 36, of Dens Road, had sentence deferred for reports and a restriction of liberty assessment.

O’Neill had previously admitted stealing a quantity of alcohol from a Tesco Metro on November 4.

He also admitted stealing a quantity of protein powder from Holland and Barratt, Overgate, on November 9 and stealing quantities of fragrances and clothing from Debenhams, Overgate, on the same date, while on bail.

Solicitor Ross Bennett told the court O’Neill’s behaviour had been a “cry for help” to overcome his alcohol problems and asked for bail as he had detoxed while in prison.

Sheriff Alastair Brown deferred sentence until December 18 and remanded O’Neill in custody.
