Supermarket evacuated after suspicious package found

A supermarket has been evacuated this morning after a suspicious package was found.

The Evening Express reports that police were called to the Sainbury’s store on  Garthdee Road, Aberdeen after receiving a report of a suspicious package in the shop.

Firefighters are also at the scene.

It is understood that police officers have taken pictures of the package and are sending them to  the Bomb Squad, which is based in Edinburgh.

The Bomb Squad is set to analyse the photographs before making a decision on whether it will need to take action.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to Sainsbury’s in Garthdee at around 9am today after receiving reports of a suspicious package.

“The supermarket has been evacuated and police and other emergency services are currently in attendance.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We received a call following a fire alarm activation at a shop in Garthdee Road at 8.57am today.

“Two appliances from North Anderson Drive are in attendance.”
