Strictly Come Dancing star Brian Conley has come to the rescue of his good pal Gok Wan – after the fashion guru was forced to pull out of a charity event in Dundee tomorrow.
How to Look Good Naked star Gok had been due to act as head judge in the Strictly Come Prancing event at the Apex Hotel, where 11 couples will compete in front of more than 700 people to raise cash for Help for Kids.
However, due to a change in his filming schedule, Gok has been forced to pull out.
Now Brian, famous for his “it’s a puppet” quip on his popular 1990s TV programme, is going to use his experience of appearing on the hit BBC show last year to take Gok’s place.
A spokesman for Gok said: “Gok is absolutely devastated he can’t head to Dundee to attend Strictly Come Prancing.
“As a massive fan of the event, and of course helping to raise awareness of the efforts of Help for Kids, having to stand down as head judge is a huge disappointment for him.
“Gok is currently filming a new series of Say Yes to the Dress and as filming progresses and with tight timelines, the production schedule has changed, meaning he needs to stay on location to film this weekend.
“Gok has asked his good friend and panto partner Brian Conley to take his place.”
Funnyman Brian was hailed as one of the most entertaining dancers on last year’s Strictly show.
The Brian Conley Show was one of the staples of TV in the early 1990s, making a return in 2000.
In his 40-year career he has presented the Royal Variety Show eight times, has starred in several West End musical and even recorded three albums.
A spokesman for the 57-year-old said: “Brian is really excited to be reliving his Strictly dream at Strictly Come Prancing and will definitely have the audience in stitches as the new head judge.
“Brian has also vowed to take to the floor with some further comedy entertainment.
“As a previous star of Strictly Come Dancing, he is a fabulous replacement.”
Stacey Wallace, Help for Kids manager, said: “We completely understand and appreciate it was a difficult situation for Gok, however, we are thrilled and excited to welcome Brian.
“He is an excellent replacement as head judge. Brian will bring his own personality and humour to the event.
“We can’t wait and the show must go on.”
