A social enterprise group is planning a speed dating event with a difference on Valentine’s Day.
Uppertunity, based at The Circle in Staffa Place, is running a matchmaking session for adults with additional needs as a new way to help them make friends.
The Two’s Company evening includes music, a buffet, drinks, games and socialising so that those with learning disabilities or additional needs can feel safe and comfortable as they make new friends.
Darryl Gaffney du Plooy, secretary at Uppertunity, said Two’s Company had been focused on friendship over romance.
He added: “We will be taking our own slant on a speed dating event, but rather than romantic love it is for people who want to expand their social circle and connect with people who have similar interests to them.
“We decided against the traditional Valentine’s thing because this is our first attempt at doing this and we didn’t want to set unrealistic expectations.”
The Two’s Company event takes place at The Circle on February 14 from 6.30pm-9.30pm. Tickets for the event are £3 each.
