The Tele can reveal that the three big-name acts set to perform in Dundee next year are Simple Minds, The Pretenders and KT Tunstall.

The Slessor Gardens gig will be the first time that iconic bands Simple Minds and The Pretenders have performed on the same stage since Live Aid in 1985.

Scottish singer KT Tunstall is also on the lineup for a concert – dubbed Grandslam 2018 –  described by Promoters LHG Live as a “treat” and “unique” musical experience for Dundee.

It follows this year’s summer feast of concerts, where UB40, Little Mix and Olly Murs
performed to thousands at Slessor.

Liz Doogan-Hobbs MBE, of LHG — which also was responsible for the 2017 summer gigs — said: “Grandslam 2018 with Simple Minds, The Pretenders and KT Tunstall is going to be the standout ticket of the summer.

“This is a unique musical moment.

“Let’s take a minute to recognise just how unique.

“These three artists never disappoint; for decades Simple Minds and The Pretenders have been delighting fans across the world, and with KT Tunstall joining them as their very special guest, fans in Dundee and the wider area are certainly in for a treat.

“Three amazing artists with superb pedigrees and an arsenal of hits — what a great summer.”

Simple Minds and the Pretenders will be celebrating new albums — Walk Between Worlds and Alone respectively — but are also set to perform their classic hits.

Jim Kerr, lead singer of Simple Minds, said: “When we started Simple Minds, our objective was to be considered as one of the great live bands — a band that had the desire to go all around the world – playing everywhere and anywhere.

“That challenge is ongoing, and we will relish touring all over the UK next summer, getting up close to so many who have supported us over the years.”

The three acts will perform on Sunday, September 9, at Slessor, as part of a UK wide tour,
including gig a in Inverness.

Tickets — priced from £37.50 to £60 — will go on sale on Wednesday December 13 at 9am from Ticketmaster.
