Ross County were last night close to agreeing a loan deal to bring former Dundee United defender Harry Souttar north to Dingwall.
It is understood the giant Stoke City centre-half is keen to join the bottom-of -the-table Premiership club until the end of the season.
Souttar, 19, who joined the Potters for an initial £200,000 in August 2016, has so far failed to make a first-team breakthrough with the English Premier League strugglers.
But the youngster is still very much wanted by Stoke manager Paul Lambert.
His one first-team appearance with Stoke to date came in August as a 60th-minute substitute in a 4-0 League Cup home win over Rochdale.
Souttar, who played twice for Dundee United, scoring once, has also picked up two Scotland U/17 caps and three U/19 caps.
