Police have sealed off a block of flats on a local road after a man was assaulted.
Officers were called to an address in Prosen Road, Kirriemuir following an incident.
Several police vehicles could be seen stationed near the scene.
One local said that someone was taken away in an ambulance and neighbours had been questioned about any activity they had seen or heard.
The current condition or the severity of the casualty’s injuries are not yet known.
The front door to the block where the incident happened has been guarded by police all day.
An eyewitness said: “I am not sure what has happened but there was five police vehicles and an ambulance there and the police have been knocking on people doors asking if they seen or heard anything last night.
“There is still one police officer standing guard at the entrance to the flats the rest have left.
“Someone was wheeled out of the flats in a wheelchair covered in blankets and blanket over there head to an ambulance which was then escorted by a police vehicle.
“The police told us that they can’t tell us what has happened and it is still in the very early stages at the moment. It seems quite serious whatever it is and seems like no one is getting entry into the block of flats.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland said investigations into the incident are on going.
He said: “We are in attendance at an address in Prosen Road, Kirriemuir, to deal with a report of a man having been assaulted.
“Inquiries are ongoing at this time.”
