Celtic's Scott Sinclair celebrates scoring his side's first goal of the game with Leigh Griffiths during the Betfred Cup, quarter-final match at Dens Park

A 20-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a police officer after being refused entry to last night’s Dundee v Celtic game at Dens Park.

Police also stated that seven people, thought to be males, were ejected from the ground for smoking.

Tayside Police warned supporters before the game that it would clamp down on any misbehaviour.

Match commander Chief Inspector Mike Whitford said: “Please remember that as well as being refused entry to the match you may be arrested and, where appropriate offences are detected, we will actively seek football banning orders.

“Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and our officers will also be visiting licensed premises before, during and after the match to maintain the safety of patrons, and will ensure that local residents experience as little disruption as possible.”

Celtic ran out comfortable 4-0 winners in the Betfred Cup quarter-final tie.
