Police issue statement on Broughty Ferry sex attack

Police have stressed that a sex attack in a grassy area in Dundee was an “isolated incident” and urged locals to remain calm.

Officers are continuing their investigations following the incident on Wednesday between the  Bennan Gardens and Broadford Terrace in Broughty Ferry.

A 22-year-old man was detained for questioning by police, but has since been released without charge.

Detective Inspector Keith Duncan issued a statement regarding the incident.

He said: “I understand that incidents of this nature are concerning for the community and I would like to reassure the public that we are taking it seriously and our inquiries are ongoing.

“A man was detained in relation to the matter and has been assisting officers with the investigation.

“This was an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the community. The public should feel confident in continuing with their daily business.”

Forensic investigators were spotted scouring through bins and bushes as part of the investigation.

Plain-clothed and uniformed police officers continued door-to-door inquiries with residents in the two streets, whose houses overlook the location.

The incident, which took place at around 4.30am on Wednesday, has prompted calls for more police patrols in the area.
