Plans to demolish council office block for ‘extra’ accommodation for the elderly

Plans to demolish a Tayside office block to clear the way for “extra care” elderly accommodation will be unveiled to the public next month.

The Atrium on Glover Street, Perth, was recently used as a base for Perth and Kinross Council staff.

Now empty, the building has been earmarked for redevelopment by care home specialists Your Life and McCarthy and Stone.

Planners have received notice that the companies propose to transform the one-acre site into new homes for the elderly. The new building will offer 24-hour staffing, a restaurant and residents’ lounge.

In a letter to the local authority, regional planning associate Campbell Purves said: “Extra care accommodation provides a valuable form of specialised accommodation, meeting a pressing need in providing appropriate accommodation for Perth’s ageing population.”

Details will be revealed at a consultation event at the Dewar’s Centre on October 31, from 2-7pm.
