Two philanthropists have each donated £25,000 to fund places for young people to participate in next month’s Sleep in the Park.
John Watson, founder of the Watson Foundation, and Bruce Wishart, managing director of Empteezy, have donated £50,000 to enable 2,000 young people to take part in the fundraiser.
Participants will spend a night under the stars in Slessor Gardens on December 8, the same night that thousands of people in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow will also sleep rough.
Those taking part have to pay an initial £50 and commit to raising at least another £50.
Organiser Social Bite hopes the event will raise £4 million for the Housing First programme to bring more than 800 people out of homelessness across five cities.
Mr Wishart said the initiative was a “great opportunity to involve young people in tackling homelessness”.
