Petrol pump damaged in theft bid at local garage

Police in Tayside have launched an investigation after a group of men tried to break open a petrol pump.

The incident took place at a garage in Carnoustie in the early hours of the morning.

A spokesman for the force appealed for witnesses to come forward and assist police in their investigation into the incident.

He said: “Police Scotland is appealing for information after an attempted theft from a garage in Dundee Street, Carnoustie, around 1am on Monday.

“A group of men unsuccessfully attempted to force open a petrol pump, causing damage.

“Officers would like to trace the driver and occupants of a dark-coloured old-style five-door Ford Focus which was seen nearby at the time of the incident.

“Anyone with information that may be useful should contact Police Scotland on 101 or speak to any officer.

“Our reference number is CR/29197/17.”
