Pedestrians told to stay off Tay Road Bridge

Pedestrians have been told to stay off Tay Road Bridge today as high winds batter the local area.

The bridge is open to cars only and has a 30mph speed restriction, with double decker buses forbidden from crossing.

The central walkway is closed to pedestrians who may have been using the route to go between Dundee and Fife this morning.

Elsewhere, the Forth Road Bridge is closed to pedestrians and cyclists but a shuttle service is running.

Strong winds were expected across all areas of the country, with gusts of 50mph-60mph likely to develop quite widely, the Met Office said.

The high winds peaked across western Scotland in the early hours and were expected to be at their strongest in the central belt during rush hour.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind, which will be in place for 24 hours from 00:00 on Monday.
