‘Pay what you can’ Dundee cafe in line for Tesco funding

The cafe is based at Coldside church

A Dundee community cafe could be in line to receive a windfall grant from supermarket chain Tesco.

Main Street Cafe, based in Coldside Church and offers a ‘pay what you can’ scheme, has been shortlisted for a share of Tesco’s Bags of Help fund.

The scheme distributes the cash raised from carrier bag sales among local community groups.

Voting for the latest round of the giveaway will start in January and run until February, with votes cast by customers using tokens given to them each time they shop in a local Tesco store.

Cafe development worker Nadia Taylor said the money could remodel the church’s outdoor space in order to grow fresh produce.

She said: “Should we be funded, we would source volunteers from those attending the cafe and the community to take part in the remodelling of the space and to continue managing the area.

“We would create a BBQ area, covered seating area and growing area for everyone to enjoy.”
