Bus giant Stagecoach has come under fire from politicians and the public for plans to axe a “vital” bus service linking Perth Royal Infirmary and Ninewells hospital.
Since it was introduced last summer, the disabled-friendly X8 service has become popular with health staff and patients.
Perth Liberal Democrat councillor Willie Wilson attacked Stagecoach for considering the withdrawal of the service which runs between PRI, Perth city centre, Ninewells, Dundee city centre and Arbroath.
The measure is being consulted on as Stagecoach maintains usage of the service is “very low”, something Mr Wilson disagrees with.
He said:“This service was introduced by Stagecoach on a commercial basis last summer. It has hardly had time to settle in. The proposed slashing of the service is a huge backward step. Stagecoach East Scotland commercial director Douglas Robertson said the possibility of withdrawing the X8 was part of ongoing reviews.
