Orchestra to play Star Wars soundtrack live at Tayside concert

Audiences in Tayside are to be among the first outside America to hear the new Star Wars soundtrack played live.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) will perform the music from The Last Jedi at Perth Concert Hall on February 4.

In addition to the music from the last eight Star Wars films, the RSNO will perform selected works from John Williams’ score for Superman, which is marking its 40th anniversary.

In a career spanning six decades, Williams has written music for some of the most popular and recognisable scores in cinematic history, including the Star Wars series, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman and Indiana Jones.

RSNO conductor Richard Kaufman, who played violin on some of them, said Williams was the greatest living film composer and one of history’s finest creators of film music.

“John has made a profound and lasting mark on film history,” he said.

Tickets are available from the Horsecross Perth Concert Hall website.
