Dundee’s return to action after the winter break will see a familiar face on the opposing side after Nicky Low signed for Queen of the South.
The Dark Blues kick off their 2019 action on January 19 with a Scottish Cup fourth-round tie against the Doonhamers at Dens Park.
Immediately after the draw the buzz was around former Dee favourite Gary Harkins’ return as part of Gary Naysmith’s side.
His move to Partick earlier this week, though, ended that.
Twenty-six-year-old Low, however, has stepped in to take that mantle and he’s expected to make his debut for the Dumfries side in Saturday’s league clash at Inverness.
After a successful period at Irish side Derry City where he was named Player and Player’s Player of the Year in 2017 and featured in the Europa League, Low has decided to return to Scotland with Queens.
Naysmith said: “Nicky had a few offers from other Championship clubs so I am pleased he has agreed to sign for us. He is a good age, 26, and has played in the Premier league here in Scotland for both Aberdeen and Dundee so he has a fair bit of experience.”
He added: “We’ll have Nicky available at Inverness.
“I’m still hopeful of getting one or two in, with Gary Harkins going it frees up his money.
“I’ve also got to speak to Callum Semple and Adam Frizzell about extending their loans. I’ve had brief discussions with Sheffield United and Kilmarnock about that but I need to speak to them.
“I like to have my players in ASAP but I have five, six enquiries in for players just now but I have to wait on their parent clubs.”
Motherwell defender Barry Maguire has joined on loan till the end of the season.
