NHS Tayside has been forced to remove fans, some given as donations – after health bosses launched a review.
Dyson fans had been present in some clinical areas across the health board – however Health Protection Scotland advised they may not be suitable for use in healthcare settings.
A spokesman for NHS Tayside said: “Patient safety is our top priority and we are following advice issued to all boards by Health Protection Scotland that Dyson fans may not be suitable for use in some clinical areas.
“As a result, as in other boards, we have taken the decision to remove Dyson fans until the outcome of a review on the use of them in clinical areas concludes.
“Health Protection Scotland has advised that in the interim, when patient safety outweighs the risk of not using a fan, a clinical risk assessment can be applied and his will be undertaken on an individual patient basis.
“We’re always extremely grateful for all fundraising and donations.”
