NHS Tayside has apologised to a woman over her treatment at Ninewells Hospital.
The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman partially upheld a complaint by patient “Miss C”, who underwent day surgery for urological problems, in which tissue samples were taken.
Miss C complained the medical and nursing care during the procedure was “painful and distressing”. She also said that it took several months to be referred to a urological specialist.
The SPSO found the patient’s nursing care to be reasonable, but asked the health board to apologise for the delay in referring her to a specialist and for the failure to document why the biopsies were necessary. It also said operation notes should include detail explaining clinical decisions.
A spokeswoman said: “We have apologised to the patient and have taken action to address the recommendation in the report.”
