Dundee boss Neil McCann expects a “war” against high-flying Motherwell but is backing his side’s ability to shine through the physical battle tonight.
The Dark Blues welcome the Steelmen to Dens Park fresh from a deserved 2-0 victory over Rangers in the Betfred Cup semi-final on Sunday.
McCann’s men got plenty of plaudits for their display themselves at the weekend despite ending up on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline at Partick Thistle.
And Neil insists they won’t be changing their attacking style any time soon.
He said: “You have to be prepared to go toe-to-toe and go to war with Motherwell when they are in possession.
“They defend their box well but they score a lot of goals so you have to be prepared to be brave to stand up and be rugged enough to meet the challenge head on.
“But, and it’s a massive but, when we are in possession, I’m not going to ask our boys to change any of their game and how we’ve been playing.
“We’ve been playing a very attractive style of football and I’m not going to change how we play up against a team like Motherwell.
“We respect their strengths but we’re a physical side as well. I don’t think we’ve been shrinking violets this year — we can put our foot in.
“What we will do when we’ve got the ball is be as free flowing as we have been.”
Louis Moult grabbed the headlines for his double that saw off the Gers at Hampden but Neil insists his side is more than aware of the threat posed by the striker.
He added: “Motherwell have been terrific this season.
“They do exactly what they’re good at which is clearly being physical, knowing their jobs and being a real goal threat both at set-pieces and general play.
“It wasn’t an eye-opener, it was exactly what I thought I was going to see.
“We know Louis Moult is a real threat. I’ve liked Moult for a long time and I’m surprised Motherwell managed to hold on to him, I have to admit. I think they’ll have a fight on their hands now clearly.
“He’s a real threat but they are not a one-man team by any stretch of the imagination. Moult gets a lot of good service, a lot of help and Motherwell are a team that know their jobs just now.”
