A man stabbed in a block of flats in Broughty Ferry is believed to have been visiting the building before he was murdered.
Mark Johnston, 53, was found dead at in the flats on Nursery Road at around 9.50pm on Friday after emergency services were called to the scene.
A 44-year-old man was detained in connection with the investigation and is currently being treated in hospital under police supervision.
Officers have confirmed they are treating Mr Johnston’s death as murder and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
It is understood Mr Johnston was stabbed, with an argument heard between two males before his body was discovered.
A police officer was still standing guard at the flats on Monday and an incident van was still in place.
Resident Kevin Beaton, 56, said he heard two men arguing before an “awful” silence. He told the Tele: “It got louder and louder and then there was silence — it was eerie. I think I knew straight away that something terrible had happened.
“There was so much shouting and then just that awful silence. After silence for a little while, a dog began barking and that went on and on. Next thing there were police everywhere. I also saw an ambulance but I never saw anyone being put into the back of it. This is a horrible thing to have happened.”
Mark Allan, 44, who lives in the block, said he was “horrified” and had known the victim informally.
He said: “I slept right through it and didn’t know anything about it until Saturday morning when the block of flats was crawling with police. I’d say hi to Mark in the passing. He was quiet and seemed to keep himself to himself. I can’t believe this has happened.”
Gary Travers, who also lives locally, said: “This is shocking. I wasn’t here when it happened and came home to find police officers in the block. I can’t believe this is happening. It’s frightening to think someone was murdered only metres away.”
Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s not nice especially as I have a two-year-old daughter, I don’t want her to see things like this.”
