Dundee United will once again face an old foe as Championship rivals Morton announced the signing of ex-Dee favourite Gary Harkins.
The 32-year-old cult hero left Dens Park last summer after a reported bust-up with then-boss Paul Hartley.
He then signed for Ayr United, but the west coast side were relegated to League One.
Today, the Cappielow side announced Jim Duffy’s capture of the former Dark Blue talisman.
The Morton boss said: “Gary is a player I’ve always admired. He’s been at Dundee, Kilmarnock, down south and played at a high level with top players.
“Last year with Ayr United, I still felt that he had that wee bit of class about him. In terms of ability, I don’t think anybody can deny he’s got real quality about him.
“Gary is a player who is blessed with natural ability, and if we can get the right balance in the team, I think he can be a very important player for us next year – a player who can add a different dimension to our game.”
The Ton missed out on Premiership promotion last season going out in the play-offs to Dundee United.
Jim Duffy will hope Harkins’ arrival at Morton will help achieve similar heights next time round.
