Police name man who died after being found lying on Dundee street

Police have named the man who died after being found in Mains Road, Dundee with head injuries late on January 1.

He is 67 year old Dundee man John Ogston. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends,” police said a statement.

At about 11pm on New Year’s Day, Mr Ogston was found lying in Mains Road at the junction with Bayne Square suffering from serious injuries to his head and body.

He later died as a result of his injuries and the death is currently unexplained.

DCI Graham Binnie said: “We are urgently looking to trace a number of witnesses, in particular the driver and any occupants of a red Audi style motor car, four men who assisted with helping Mr Ogston into a nearby house and the driver of a taxi who may have driven along the street at or near the time of the incident.

“I would stress that that due to the circumstances of the incident it may not have been immediately obvious to anyone who saw Mr Ogston that he was seriously injured.

“I would also appeal to anyone who has knowledge of the incident to contact Police Scotland.

“Also, we would like to reassure the public that there be an increased Police presence in the area as officers will be conducting house to house and CCTV enquiries in the coming days”.

“If you have any information which could assist our enquiries, please call 101 or speak to any police officer.

“Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11. Please quote incident 663 of 2nd January 2018.”
