Man accused of severing women’s hand at Dundee home asks to represent himself in court

The High Court in Glasgow.

The case of a man accused of severing a woman’s hand at a Dundee home has been continued.

Stephen Brisbane is accused of robbing Sandra McGowan on February 14 last year at an address in South Road, assaulting her by grabbing her by the wrist, severing her right hand with a knife and robbing her of a ring.

At an appearance at Glasgow High Court today, Brisbane said he wished to represent himself.

Lord David Burns ruled that the case be continued without plea and Brisbane be assigned a solicitor.

The judge continued the case until October 23 for the accused to be assigned a solicitor, and further psychiatric assessment.

Brisbane, 33, a prisoner at HM Prison Perth, was remanded in custody in the meantime.
