Arbroath Community Council is urging locals to help raise £6,000 to ensure the town has a Christmas lights display this year.
The group has launched an online crowdfunding campaign to collect half of the £12,000 needed for the festive decorations.
So far just over £250 has been pledged but there are still three weeks until the campaign ends.
Other fundraising events are planned and the group hopes to be successful with grant applications.
The Christmas lights were previously the responsibility of Angus Council but the local authority is aiming to save £85,000 a year so the community council stepped in to try to save the day.
