A Church of Scotland minister has revealed he was criticised by fellow clergymen for launching Perthshire’s first Pride event.
The Rev Scott Burton, of St Matthew’s Church, apologised for the Kirk’s historical treatment of the LGBTQ community at Saturday’s gathering outside Perth Concert Hall.
Mr Burton became the first Church of Scotland minister to open an LGBTQ celebration.
He said: “There have been some negative responses from ministers but there has also been an overwhelmingly positive response from churches across the country.
“People have been contacting me from churches who have children that are gay or other family members and they have been thanking me.
“I attended as a local minister in the community supporting a local event.
“Also, it was telling people in the community that God loves them, as do other people in the Church.”
