Local MasterChef finalist Dean Banks is set to bring a selection of tasty dishes to a Tayside pop-up event inspired by his time on TV.
The globetrotting private chef is bringing a one-off special event to The Rookery in Carnoustie later this month.
Diners who opt for the five-course meal will be treated to a variation of his signature dish of nori (sea-weed) salmon.
Other delicacies likely to be on offer are a fish curry with dahl and puri bread and a dessert course of his nana’s banoffee pie.
He will split the duties with The Rookery’s head chef Chris Hazelton, who will present one of the five courses on the night.
Carnoustie-born Dean told the Tele it was about time he started hosting events in Angus and that The Rookery was the perfect location.
He said: “These will be dishes inspired by my time on MasterChef, so they will be like, but not exactly the same as, what I was making on TV.
“So if you watched the series and wished you could try some of it now is your chance.
“I thought it was about time I started doing events in the local area. People have always been coming up to me and asking how I am and if I’m doing anything here.
“When I visited The Rookery I thought it was the perfect spot.”
The event, on February 22, is expected to be a hot ticket with just 70 covers available, 10 of which will be VIP briefs with Dean in a private dining area.
However, if MasterChef fans miss out, Dean – who is preparing to open his first restaurant in Edin-burgh – has hinted that he will continue coming back to Tayside.
He added: “I want to keep doing things in the local area and have more lined up. And for the local people who have said they were sad I was going to Edinburgh – never say never.”
Tickets are on sale from today from £75, available directly from The Rookery on 01241 802296 or therookerycarnoustie.com.
