Kevin Holt returns for Dundee but O’Dea in the balance

Kevin Holt in action for Dundee

Dundee will welcome left-back Kevin Holt back to the first-team fold for the clash against Hibs today after his illness.

What’s less clear cut is the availability of captain Darren O’Dea as the club wait to find out if he’s medically cleared to play after he suffered concussion last week against Motherwell.

That may see youngster Kerr Waddell keep his place in the side after starting the last fixture against Hamilton.

Also available are Julen Etxabeguren and Kosta Gadzhalov if boss Neil McCann goes for a different option.

The Dens gaffer said: “Kevin Holt is back training, he’s fine. With Darren, protocols must be met, so I’m hopeful of that.

“We’ll keep monitoring Darren, it’s something you’ve got to be careful of, but we have cover.

“One thing I’m not going to do is take any risks with someone.”

Another who has been missing lately, midfielder Scott Allan, is back in training and is “champing at the bit” according to Neil.

“Scott Allan has been great, the operation has been really successful and he’s been back training with the group.

“We’ll look to maybe get him a game next week.

“He’s champing at the bit.

“He’s been looking great in training, so we just need to make sure he’s right.

“After the international break, he’ll come back into contention again.”
