A man was jailed by Sheriff John Rafferty after admitting that he breached his community payback order.
Steven Gill, 37, of Watson Street, failed to comply with social workers on the order, which Sheriff Rafferty revoked, sending him to jail for 200 days instead.
The order had been imposed in December as a direct alternative to custody after Gill admitted stealing clothing from Sports Direct, Overgate Centre, on January 29 2016 and stealing bottles of perfume from B&M, Wellgate Centre, on November 4 2016.
He also admitted that he possessed heroin at police HQ on January 15 2017, while on bail.
Gill further admitted that he assaulted his former partner Nadine Kelbie and struck her on the head at Irvine Square on the same day, while on bail.
He also admitted that he was found in the curtilage of Nesbitt Street in circumstances whereby it could be reasonably inferred that he intended to commit theft on February 23.
Gill further admitted that he swallowed items suspected to be drugs and attempted to pervert the course of justice on Arbroath Road on the same date, while on five bail orders.
