Dundee’s hopes of landing Peterborough captain Jack Baldwin look slim after Sunderland and Bolton entered the race to sign the defender.
The Dark Blues made a bid for the 24-year-old centre-back earlier this month but fell short of the £250,000 asking price.
Baldwin is on the transfer list at London Road after an inconsistent season and manager Steve Evans has already brought in Jason Naismith from Ross County.
Aberdeen had earlier made advances, though their interest has since cooled, and now two former English Premier League clubs are eyeing a move.
New Sunderland boss Jack Ross is busy rebuilding his squad as he aims to get the Black Cats back to the Championship at the first time of asking and a move back to the north-east after starting his career at Hartlepool might suit Baldwin.
However, Championship side Bolton are also chasing him.
