A young dancer will head to Spain for potentially life-saving cancer treatment after a fundraising campaign smashed its £40,000 target.
Lily Douglas, who celebrated her 11th birthday last week, is battling stage-four Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare strain of bone marrow cancer.
A fundraising initiative was launched to send Lily to the Immucura Med in Malaga for a trailblazing treatment that uses the immune system to fight cancer cells – a target that was quickly reached.
Among the donors was Dundonian Greg Burke, who pledged £5,585 from the fund set up in memory of wife Tracey, who passed away from cervical cancer this year.
A musical night at the Mallard pub in Perth’s North Muirton area, featuring The Sandemans and singer-songwriter Kelly McCormick, brought in £2,605.
Organiser Marie Louise Lafferty said: “We are delighted to have raised so much.
“I’m thankful to Nicki Dunbar-Moncur for helping me with such a great night.”
