Firefighters were called out to a Dundee supermarket after a bundle of newspapers were set on fire.
The stack of papers were found ablaze beside Sainsbury’s on Tom Johnston Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The papers would have been left outside the store waiting for collection.
Police now want to speak to a group of youngsters seen in the area around the time of the incident and a few hours beforehand.
The flaming newspapers were found near the steps leading to Baldovie Road.
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said one engine from the Kingsway was sent to the scene.
He added: “We were called at 6.56am. A pile of newspapers were on fire.
“One hose reel jet was used.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland added: “Officers are keen to trace a groups of youths who were seen in the area at the time.
“Anyone with any information that may be useful should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting CR/26464/17 or speak to any police officer. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
