Hunt for driver after dog killed in hit-and-run

The tragedy happened near Forfar Loch

Police are on the hunt for a motorist after a dog was killed in a hit-and-run.

The black and white Shih Tzu-type dog was struck by a 4×4 vehicle yesterday afternoon and the driver failed to stop.

The horrifying incident was said to have happened near to the yacht club at Forfar Loch at about 2pm.

The dog’s owner and young grandson are believed to have witnessed the collision.

Posting an appeal on social media, the owner said her family are ” devastated” and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

She believed the vehicle to be a black 4×4 Volvo.

A statement from Police Scotland read: “We are appealing for witnesses to come forward who may have any information regarding a hit and run road traffic collision which occurred at about  at Forfar Loch.

“Police are looking for anyone who may have any information regarding the make or model of this black coloured vehicle or who may have witnessed this incident taking place.
