A petition urging the city council to reverse its decision to reject plans for a new Clark’s takeaway has gathered support from hundreds of people.
The city bakery had submitted an application to open a new portable unit near the Myrekirk roundabout at Kingsway West.
However, the plan was refused on delegated authority by the council’s planning department, which said the outlet would have a “detrimental” impact to the “character and visual amenity” of the area.
The proposal involved two shipping containers – one for serving and one for cooking – being set up in the vacant site.
Customer Lylia Ferguson launched the petition in the belief that “lots of people think it’s a great idea”.
Owner Jonathon Clark said he was “gobsmacked” to see the response to the petition, which has been signed by about 500 people.
“It’s good to know we have support,” he added.
