Three departments at Ninewells Hospital have benefited from a fundraiser launched in support of former Dundee FC kid John Black.
During his time in hospital, the 20-year-old spent time in A&E, intensive care and the neurology high dependency unit.
His sister Jenna organised a headshave, recruiting some of John’s close friends and footballing colleagues — including Jamie Robson, Ryan Menzies, Keir Reilly and Rudi Brown — to lop off their locks in the hope of giving something back to the staff who are “worth their weight in gold”.
The headshave raised a whopping £3,577 — with £1,192 going to each of the departments that cared for John.
Jenna said: “It was all down to the boys — they’re the ones who deserve praise.”
John returned to the hospital along with mum June, sisters Jenna and Jodie, partner Joanna and a host of friends to present the cheques to staff.
The family visited each of the departments and handed over the cheques to enable them to personally thank the staff who saved John’s life.
John met the doctor who treated him when he was first rushed into A&E.
Jodie had previously organised a separate fundraiser with John’s BT call centre colleagues.
