Children’s author Julia Donaldson will entertain schoolchildren next week on the first stop of a nationwide tour of libraries.
The best-selling creator of The Gruffalo will be at Dundee’s Steps Theatre, in the Central Library, on Monday for an interactive event involving P3 and P4 pupils from six invited schools.
Pupils will reimagine and retell a picture book of their choice, designing props, musical accompaniment, songs and rhyme.
Julia will then perform her own musical plays and adaptations of her picture books.
The tour is part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour, organised by Scottish Book Trust.
Since the publication of her first story — A Squash and A Squeeze — in 1993, Julia has sold millions of books worldwide and seen many of her titles adapted for film and theatre.
Julia said: “I’m very much looking forward to joining the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour for its 20th anniversary celebrations.
“It’s particularly good to be able to do something to celebrate not just libraries but also librarians, whose jobs these days are sadly often under threat.”
