Greenpeace activists donned penguin suits outside the RRS Discovery to raise awareness of the endangered Antarctic bird.
The group is calling on the UK Government to do more to protect the species, and wants to create an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary, covering 1.8 million square kilometres of sea.
Wildlife in the Antarctic Ocean is under threat from both a warming climate and an ever-expanding commercial fishing industry.
The sanctuary area would provide a safe haven for birds, fish, whales and marine life by banning fishing boats from the designated zone.
Ocean sanctuaries have previously been shown to have helped preserve wildlife in California, Hawaii, the Chagos archipelago, the Ross Sea and the Isle of Arran.
